![]() ![]() I was inspired by how two of my favorite My Hero Academic fanfics and how they tackled aspec identities and queerplatonic relationships. ![]() I didn’t want him to commit 100% to the identity yet because he needs time to explore it himself (but will later identity as aroace). Jensen is still learning and discovering himself. WHY JENSEN ISN’T CONFIRMED AROACE.Ībove all else, this YA fantasy is a coming-of-age novel. Making Jensen aroace was an easy choice because he was already aroace, I just didn’t have the terminology when I started writing the novel. I wanted a story about just friends because I felt that the YA fantasy genre was overrun with romance for its main characters. But my novel was already a love letter to the aspec agenda. When i first wrote this novel in 2016, I was in high school and I hadn’t heard of the term aromantic or asexual. In book one, Jensen recognizes that it fits him but doesn’t confirm it yet (but I, the author, will confirm it for you).īook two will discuss his aroace identity further (including confirming it). There is one scene where another character who is asexual discusses aromanticism and asexuality to him. The novel doesn’t focus on his orientation though. ![]()
